Assistant Lacrosse Coach - Stipend/ Class Credit Internship

Roles and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Program Manager, the part-time Assistant Lacrosse Coach (Intern) will provide support to the program team, primarily in the areas of coaching and managing Spring programs for the Rookie (3-4th Grade), Youth (5-6th Grade) Junior (7-8th Grade) and High School (9-12th Grade) teams. We offer both boys and girls programming. Employment is for the spring season (April – June).

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as an Assistant Lacrosse Coach for urban youth and teens in Boston and Chelsea;
  • Assist Program Managers in all logistics and administrative tasks related to managing MetroLacrosse’s Rookie, Youth, Junior and High School programs;
  • Attend all Coaches Trainings as assigned;
  • Plan and execute weekly practices and games with a focus on character and lacrosse development;
  • Assist Program Managers with planning and implementing events and tournaments;
  • Uphold MetroLacrosse’s culture and traditions to foster positive youth development through sports-based programming;
  • Consistent and dependable coaching leadership is of high importance to MetroLacrosse staff and player participants

Skills and Qualifications
The Assistant Lacrosse Coach (Intern) must have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Passion and commitment to improving the quality and availability of sports-based programs for urban youth.
  • Experience with team sports is required; lacrosse playing or coaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work two nights during the week as well as Saturday mornings.
  • Humility, a strong work ethic, a sense of humor and an orientation to team-based, collaborative work is essential.
  • Ability to attend all practices and games at one of our locations; Franklin Field in Dorchester, Chelsea High School and Moakley Park in South Boston. Transportation is not provided nor compensated.
  • Spanish language skills and knowledge of urban communities within Boston and Chelsea, MA is a plus.

SummerBounce Staff
SummerBounce is an annual overnight summer program for participants entering grades 7-12 in the fall of 2014. A highlight of the MetroLacrosse calendar every year, SummerBounce features plenty of lacrosse and the Alpine Tower team building experience.
