The recent news surrounding Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice reminds us that much of college athletics has lost touch with the educational mission of a coach. A friend shared this story with me, about Pacific Lutheran football coach, Frosty Westering, who recently passed away.
This story is truly inspiring and reminds us how beautiful sports can be. I had never heard of Frosty Westering of Pacific Lutheran but it is clear to me that he represents what is great about sports and about college sports. It’s a shame that we hear a lot more about Mike Rice than we do about Frosty Westering.
